Bowls

Our sides have had something of a topsy-turvy start to the season . All three of our league sides (1st, 2nd and Pennant) lost on Saturday although the scores do not give an accurate reflection of how the games progressed. Our 1st team played at home against the current log-leaders Old Parks. What was rewarding was to hear the very complimentary things that were said about our Greenside green by the opposition. There were also many good things said about the quality and quantity of the snacks provided after the game and we compliment Fiona of Puff Pastry on a job very well done. May her efforts long continue!

Yesterday was Wednesday league again and we had a derby game in that our two Pirates sides met each other . Ultimately Mike Theunissen’s side prevailed over that of Cavin Cornelius by four shots .

Joker Draw

Our waitress, Abby Edgar, was drawn last Friday but unfortunately did not turn the joker so its now rolled over to R5930. Come try your luck on Friday!

For the next two weekends we will be hosting fundraising charity events at The Bowls Club Hall. Poker this Saturday and Jazz the next, it promises to be fun!

The programmes focuses on creating awareness on puberty and adolescent and in the process demystify all menstrual related myths. The programme was started in 2012 after Richard Mabaso (concept innovator) overhead a fearful conversation between his mom and niece about menstruation which to this day is deemed taboo by many societies. It focuses on the following areas: education and training on: puberty and menstrual hygiene management, handling, usage and disposal of sanitary towels in poor and rural schools or communities. Research has revealed that most poor girls may miss up to 50 days of schooling annually due to the lack of access to adequate sanitary protection. It is against these shocking statistics that Imbumba Foundation established Caring4Girls to achieve the following: • Reach and support as many poor girls as possible with sanitary towels • Create menstrual hygiene awareness through education and training. • Establish Caring4Girls Advocacy Groups in schools. • Reduce school a high number of school absenteeism and drop-outs caused by menstrual related challenges. • Holistic development and empowerment of the girl child and the boy child at a later stage.
