Pirates bullied Wanderers at Greenside on Saturday which resulted in a 43-5 victory in the last Pirates Grand Challenge fixture of the season.

“We targeted their pack and knew if we can physically dominate them the game was won,” said coach Brad Wilkin.

New Lions lock Makou Erasmus, who scored two tries, is a huge acquisition and he was aptley named Man of the Match.

Wilkin says to single out any players would be unfair and the victory was a result of an immense team effort.

“We played great rugby but I must confess that they weren’t great. Their back three let them down and Clayton Kelly left the field injured within five minutes.”

It wasn’t a good day at the office for Wanderers after a long season and this was one game too many.

Losing their charismatic captain with a torn quad muscle early in the game had a devastating effect on the Chiefs.

“Losing Kelly was unsettling to say the least. We had a very long season having played in the Community Cup and taking into consideration that we only moved up from the B section a mere two years ago.

“We have been playing rugby for almost a full year now. Today’s loss cannot reflect the fantastic season that we have had and I am very proud of the boys,” said Neil Kalify.

While this victory doesn’t change Pirates’ position on the log it will give them confidence for their semi-final against UJ in three weeks time.

Erasmus has, according to Wilkin, huge potential and the two metre lock scored two tries.

“We dominated up front and that freed our loose-forwards up a bit. Ben Sekgobela was brilliant in tandem with Dudley Stead I think they were the big difference,” said Wilkin.

We’d like to introduce you to our new Craft Beer Sundays at Pirates…starting this Sunday.

Spring has sprung
The grass has riz
I wonder where the beers is …..

We are finally into September (and spring) and thus Craft Beer Sundays are finally here!!!!  You would have seen the posters in and around Pirates and on emails but the first Craft Beer Sunday is right on our doorstep (or is that on our beer mat?).

As promised Pirates are slashing the prices of all their craft beers for Craft Beer Sunday and this will happen every Sunday whilst it remains popular – it is thus up to you to get your friends and family to join you for a day in the sun.  There are lots of things for energetic kids to do around Pirates so make it a Sunday afternoon for the entire family, all generations.  We have secured the wonderful services of Andrew Pinder, a qualified chef who will have great offerings available from his food truck.  Dave is also going to bring his Beer Cruiser to save you from having to leave the glorious sunshine.

As always we rely on your guys and gals to spread the word and we appreciate all your efforts in this regard.
