ROAD RACES IN THE MONTH OF JUNE
Information about the races has been obtained from the Runnersguide website and is up to date at the time of publication of the newsletter. June is the quietest month in terms of road races on the calendar.
The newsletter has gone out pretty late so a lot of the races would have already passed but worth reading for future purposes.

MTN Half Marathon, 10km and 5km
The MTN race is one of the newer races on the calendar but still gets a large turnout from the non-Comrades runners. It is a tough route with the dreaded Golf Club Terrace (or Hyper hill) being included. The race is pre-entry only.

Striders Youth Day Half Marathon
Information is pretty scarce online with no entry information or race flyers available. The race is scheduled to start at Kagiso Sports Complex at 7:00. There is a 5km in addition to the half marathon.

21km Orlando Race Against Cancer
This race takes place at the Orlando Communal Hall which has hosted some great races over the years including the defunct Sandton to Soweto. The 21km starts at 7am and there is also a 10km and a 5km. It appears that pre-entries get a race pack which needs to be collected on the Saturday of the event. You are however still able to enter on the race day – not sure if that means no race packs for those entries.

Frenus Zietsman Run Against Drugs
It appears that this is a brand new event with various short distance options. The first 300 entries receive a t-shirt. The run takes place at the Brooklyn school and starts at 7:30am. You are able to enter on the morning of the event.

Riana van Niekerk Run for Bibles
The Run for Bibles race has a new venue for 2018 from the Lewende Woord church in Centurion. The first 200 entries receive a t-shirt and pre-entries close on the 17th June. You are able to enter on the morning of the event. There is a half marathon, 10km and 5km with the event starting at 7:30.
REST OF SOUTH AFRICA
ONLY BIG RACES
All the marathons are finished around the country so this month’s races we mention are those that have substantial field sizes over the shorter distances – a very quiet month for races.

Comrades Marathon
The largest race on the South African calendar with 22 000 runners participating by running the 90km between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. The 2018 edition is the down run. Comrades entries open in September each year and close when the entry cap has been reached.
