BOWLS
Bowls Ladder has started with a bang!
We had 22 bowlers for our blitz day playing up to 4 matches each with a nice lunch in between. The hungry and thirsty competitors were well catered for and the boerie rolls were really yummy. We have little doubt that the challenges will be thrown around with relish. Well done again to Steve Delaney for his involvement.
Great morning was had by all and it was great to see the combination of new and old faces in action. The first cut ladder is now produced as below. The points are just the tally for the day and from now on the positions are all that matter. We’ll produce the rules for challenges etc. by the weekend.
There is still plenty of time to get involved the ladder goes until October!. Contact stephenpdelany@gmail.com or the office or book online using this link:

Thanks again to our sponsor Magwitch for helping us get this off the ground!
Our Wednesday team again had an unfortunate afternoon at Old Parks losing narrowly but playing some good bowls in the process.
Our braai unit will be back at the club sometime on Friday morning. We’re looking forward to getting it back as Albrae Bevan of Metal Masters has promised us that it will look as good as new. Our thanks not only to him but also to Mike Theunissen for providing the transport to get the braai there and back.
We also plan to renovate the deck soon. This will take place as soon as John Bartmann has organised the industrial sander for the job whereafter it will be properly sealed with the muti that has been arranged by Steve Hunt.
THE PICAROON
ROAD RUNNING
It is that time of the year again – the Pirates 10k run/walk with the 5k dash.
We have a new sponsor on board – SlowMag – and together we have designed a completely new event on the Joburg calendar. The Beat Your Slump run is a perfect mid-winter event, which combines a 10k run with a 1km obstacle course on the Pirates fields.
This is the start of a new era for the Pirates 10k event!
More info to follow soon – but please diarise the date (3rd July 2016) as we will require all hands on deck to make this event a success.

RUGBY
It was a tough weekend for the club in Potch but there was a massive silver lining with the 1st team pulling off a great victory against a strong PUKKE side.
The coaches put the game plan into place and the team executed it to perfection and won the game 29-14 after being down 14-13 at half time.
Its been a while since the students have been kept scoreless in a half but the pure determination by the boys forced the students into mistakes and starved them of the ball. The forwards laid the foundation up front and when we felt we had earned the right to go wide the backs caused havoc. It was an important win for the lads and the club and a proud day for the Rats. The rest of the club went down on the day but there where good performances from the 2nds and u20’s.
The focus moves to Union this weekend as we welcome them to the club on Saturday.
Come down and support the lads!!
