Hi there Pirates Members and Friends
The Club had a very good weekend with a very successful Junior Rugby Game for all age groups over the weekend. The Club was well supported for the Springboks game – it was a great weekend at the Club.
PIRATES RUGBY NEWS
Unfortunately the 3rd Rugby Team lost their game against Tukkies on Saturday in a very hard fought battle. The score was 8 – 10 which was so close. That draws the Rugby Season to a close for 2013 and we look forward to a very successful 2014 Season

UPDATE ON PIRATES SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAMMES
The Club is involved in many Social Responsibility Programmes which I would like to keep the members informed about. We would be most appreciative if anyone can help in anyway with these initiatives undertaken by Pirates Club and it’s generous members. I will give a monthly update on these projects
Junior Rugby
Each Wednesday evening 20 to 25 Boys are transported to Pirates to join our Junior Rugby Programme. These boys come from Nooitgedacht School and live in Cosmos City and Diepsloot.
These Wednesday evenings are the highlight of their whole week. The Club has kitted them out in Pirates long sleeve t-shirts and shorts. We have also managed to give all of them a good pair of shoes and a warm jacket from the generous donations of 2nd hand clothing from our Junior Rugby Members.
These boys are also give a warm meal every Monday sponsored by the Section and donations received from the Junior Rugby parents.
If there is anyone who is able to assist with helping these boys with 2nd hand clothing or has a contact for non-perishable food we could send home with them we would be most grateful
The coaches who train these boys say there is fantastic talent in these boys and we look forward to them playing for Senior Rugby in the future.
Athletic/Hockey/Squash
On Monday and Tuesday mornings children from Vuleka School in Rosebank come to Pirates to be taught sporting skills by members of our Club.
The children are split into 3 groups which rotate weekly so that they get to experience all 3 sporting codes and taught these sports on a regular basis.
The Children love these outings each week and the coaches see fantastic sporting potential in many of these children.
We would like to offer them swimming lessons from September as the children absolutely LOVE to swim. If there is anyone who is able to teach swimming and can assist us we would be so grateful. We do offer remuneration to anyone who is able to assist. Please contact Non in the office if you can or know of anyone who can help us teach these children to swim.
Homeless Cricket Programme
Pirates Cricket Section has been running this programme for over 20 years and it is still hugely successful. They are however battling with funds and cricket kit so if anyone can assist us with this it would be fantastic.
Every Saturday morning street children are brought in from the Inner City to learn the game of cricket. They are given breakfast and a packed lunch when they leave at the end of the morning.
There are many of these boys who are playing league cricket for Pirates now and really excelling. The Cricket Section have even taught the girls how to score so everyone is benefiting.
Again if anyone can assist with this programme in ANY way – funding, equipment, donations of food it would go a long way in helping keeping this programme going.
This Cricket Development Programme is the most successful in Gauteng so we as Pirates are very proud of this achievement.
