ROAD RUNNING

PIRATES 10KM RUN & WALK

The Pirates 10km is just over 2 weeks away. Many of you have already volunteered your help and we thank you for that. If you haven’t volunteered yet but will be in JHB on that weekend we kindly request that you put your hand up – the more people assisting the easier the work load and the more fun we have after the event.

What I’m asking of you in this email though is something slightly different. I want to utilize all your individual networks to have a widespread marketing effect. To that end I have attached the flyer and the 10km strategy doc. You will note that we have added a 5km fun this year and that it will incorporate the inaugural Pirates Road Running School Challenge. The focus of the run is to get a whole new generation of runners to fall in love with road running through the experience of the comradery, the competitiveness and just the healthy aspect of getting out on the road. We will have lots of entertainment at the club so there is plenty of things to do for non-runners whilst they wait for the runners to return – we really want families to come out together on the morning to experience our great vibe.

If I can beg all of you to assist me in getting this out as quickly as possible. If you can just take a few minutes of your time to:

Email the flyer out to your friends and family members who may be interested in running, supporting or just enjoying a morning in the winter sun.
Place the flyer on your Facebook page and also if you can link to the Pirates Road Running Group (I’m not on Social media so if this doesn’t make sense please can someone send a follow up email via Shelagh). If we can get the flyer on at least 100 pages I would expect that well in excess of 1 000 people will end up viewing it.
If you are on Twitter please send out a message to your lists with the race details (start time and distances). Use the tag of #Pirates10k.
If you have children in school please can you send me the contact details of the teacher in charge of sports/athletics so that I can engage with them regarding the Pirates Road Running School Challenge.

Lastly for those of you that have businesses or are working at a company that would love to get involved along the route please do not hesitate to contact me. We don’t need anything from the corporates in terms of money, we just want to fill up the route with a number of support points to create a bigger vibe. It is a great marketing opportunity as all the runners will have to pass you along the route and if set up at the correct point (generally on an uphill) the runners really appreciate the support and will be more likely to remember and investigate your brand.
