Stor-Age backs the Old Boys Tens Annual Education Endowment Fund fundraiser

The Old Boys Tens initiative (OBX) has teamed up with Stor-Age, South Africa’s leading self storage brand, for the fourth edition of the annual fundraising rugby tournament. More than 30 old boy’s rugby teams will take part in the two-day event on 10 and 11 November as a fundraiser for the Education Endowment Fund NPC.

Established in 2011, the Education Endowment Fund aims to raise funds to distribute to children in need through bursaries and assistance in non-profit educational programmes in disadvantaged communities throughout South Africa. The initiative has the committed support from fellow Old Boy Associations and partners. The purpose of the tournament is to align synergies amongst these existing Old Boys Associations of South Africa’s traditional schools through the comradery game of tens rugby. The iconic ambassadors of the event include the likes of Akona Ndungane, Lionel Cronje, Scarra Ntubeni and Sbura Sithole.

Tournament Director of the Stor-Age Old Boys Tens and founder of the Education Endowment Fund, Marcel Malherbe comments, “As we kick off the 4th edition of the OBX, it truly is amazing to see South Africans come together for the sole purpose of nation building. The OBX alignment with the vision of the Education Endowment Fund’s legacy of creating sustainable educational opportunities is the very calling of all 700 players, 3000 spectators, and partners of the OBX. Long may it grow, and long may we make a real difference”.

The team from the Old School Group, who manage the award-winning Cape Town 10s, will also manage the OBX tournament. Stor-Age, title sponsor of the event, has been long involved in tens rugby and the club sport.

As a vehicle for the Education Endowment Fund, the hope is that OBX will become a legacy event that brings communities together to boost self-empowerment through education, all the while enjoying the social fundamentals of sport. More than just a quality rugby spectacle, the OBX is an opportunity for teams and spectators to make a difference in the communities around them.

The event will again be hosted at Pirates Rugby Club and is expecting to attract over 700 participants to take part in more than 60 rugby games. With the theme of old school rugby spirit, the old school rivalries on the field promise for an entertaining weekend. There will also be live entertainment, music, food stalls, a beer garden and a kiddie’s play area to ensure a fun-filled weekend for the whole family at Johannesburg’s premium tens rugby festival.
