Juniors

We entered two under 14 teams for the first time this year. Our juniors played really well and when one considers that our juniors are on average younger than 12 years old their results are commendable. Our A-team came third in league section 1.4 and our B-team won section 1.7. Our B-team champions showed real composure winning their final match against Old Ed’s, the other title contender, by a single game. Well done to the members of the B-team – Leo Cheenne, Emile Cilliers, Jordan and Cameron Dart, Lindes and Jozua Malherbe, Pedro Basson and Heinrich Bormann. Combined

Mixed League – Adults The Combined Mixed League is now over and all 4 teams have consolidated in their sections throughout the various leagues. Mention must go to the A team, who more than held their own in the Premier leagues, against tough competition. They came 2nd overall in their league 1.3 – well played! Thanks to all the league coordinators, captains and players – particularly \those who came out to play at the last minute.

RUGBY

Catch Pirates playing a home game this weekend against WITS. Games start at 12h15 and the first team plays at 15h00.

PIRATES 10KM ROAD RACE

We are in the final stages of preparation for the Pirates 10km. With the massive sponsorship from Slow-Mag and the increased marketing spend, we hope for a record field size and would like to involve the entire club in our event. This is one of the three big events that Road Running host each year and we, as always, appreciate the assistance/participation of all the other sections.

I have attached a document that sets out the strategy of the event that I would request you distribute amongst your section members. It is an initiative taking place at this event.

In brief, what we are looking for is:

1. Assistance in spreading the word via social media with all Facebook members requested the share, share & share of the event previously have come on board in this aspect with a beer pong fundraiser, helpers from your section are grouped together.

2. Participation as an athlete. Neither the 10km or the 5km are very difficult and manageable for all. We are timing the race electronically and have used one of the few companies that is listed as a Discovery Vitality partner. It does mean that all participants will get up to 600 Vitality points with a fancy electronic device.

THE CLUB DARW TONIGHT!
