Pirates RR Year End Dinner – Friday 28th
This is to be held this Friday in the Bowls Clubhouse. At R125 a head it is a real steal as we are going to get to experience some top food and some great entertainment (even if this is provided by the runners themselves). Dress code has been described as black tie but similar to last year no-one is going to get kicked out for a little less formal. Time is 7pm for 7:30pm so more than enough time to get to the Main bar beforehand for Club Draw, Joker Draw & Wellington VO bottle Draw (as per last week’s newsletter – Reckson not included).
Presidents Handicap – Sunday 30th
Probably the best run on the Pirates calendar for members. It is the one that suits all abilities as it doesn’t matter what speed you can run but rather how well you can judge your pace. The Presidents Handicap is run over the Pirates 21km race route and the challenge part is to be the first runner to finish after 9:30. You get to decide your start time in order to get back to the finish at the appropriate time. Don’t worry if you aren’t confident of pacing or if you don’t know the route that well – there are always a few buses to help you pace – from the walking buses, through the social 2:30 bus that tends to deliver the winners more often than not to the quicker groups that race around the course, there is a home for everyone. This event always has a fantastic vibe afterwards so there will be some festivities in the morning – bring swimming costumes etc and we’ll arrange to get the Pirates pool open. Warning – in order to win this event you need to be within a minute as most participants finish by 9:32 with the runners all on top of each other as they finish on Cruden Bay.
AGM – Tuesday 1st
The Pirates Road Running Annual General Meeting is to be held in Old Bones at 19:30. This gives all the runners and walkers more than enough time to complete time trial prior to the AGM. Quorum as per the constitution is 10% of members so we need a whole lot of members in attendance to meet this quorum and have a valid meeting. There will be snacks to encourage attendance. Remember this is your big opportunity to find out what happened over the last year, to have your say and to be involved in the way forward of the section. As always new committee members are always needed so if you have some time and wish to help – please put your hand up.
